Marine Electronics
An autopilot controls the steering of the vessel in order to keep the vessel on a selected compass heading or a course to a waypoint that was created on a chart plotter.
Dedicated instrument displays show specific vessel data at a glance. They are commonly found in both sail and power boat applications.
Multifunction displays combine a GPS receiver and a display for multiple applications including chart plotting, radar, sonar/fish-finder and instrument functions.
See the latest Raymarine CHIRP fishfinder sonar modules that that offer the class leading Dragonfly DownVision CHIRP functionality to any Raymarine multifunction display.
Automatic Identification System enables exchange of navigation status between vessels and traffic monitoring centres.

Just like computer networks, marine electronics devices use networks (using special cable and connectors) to share and communicate information.
Electronic charts store cartography information on a memory card that plugs into a multifunction display so that the chart can be displayed.
Transducers convert physical values such as tank levels and AC current to electrical signals compatible to the DCM inputs so that the values are availble to NXT logic and NMEA-2000.
